Requesting Access to Restricted Data
What you'll do
Submit a request to view or interact with data that's behind access control, explaining why you need it.
Before you start
You've encountered restricted data — a masked field, a restricted Space, or similar — and need permission to access it.
Steps
- On the restricted data, click Request access or Ask for access (exact label varies).
- A request form opens.
- Enter your reason (why you need access, what you'll do with it).
- Click Submit.
A review task is created for the appropriate approver. You'll be notified when they respond.
During the approval process
- Your request is assigned to an approver (usually a Space owner or administrator).
- They review your reason.
- They approve or reject the request (may ask clarifying questions).
If approved
- You receive a notification.
- The access is granted temporarily (usually for 1 day, depending on the request type).
- You can now view or use the restricted data during that window.
- When the time expires, the restriction re-applies.
If rejected
- You receive a notification explaining the decision.
- You can resubmit the request later with more context if needed.
What happens next
You can only use the access during the approval window. If you need long-term access, ask your administrator to grant you a permanent elevated role instead.
