Access Requests
What it is
An Access Request is a formal way to ask for permission to view or interact with restricted data. If something is behind access control, you submit a request explaining why you need it, and an approver decides whether to grant temporary access.
When to use it
Use an access request when you encounter restricted data you need to see:
- A field is masked and you need the actual value
- A record is restricted to certain roles and you need to access it
- You need to impersonate another user to understand their experience
Where to find it
When you encounter restricted data, there's usually a "Request Access" button or link. Click it to submit a request.
How it works
Submitting a request:
- Click Request Access on restricted data.
- Enter a reason explaining why you need access.
- Click Submit.
A review task is created and sent to the appropriate approver. You'll be notified when the request is reviewed.
What happens next:
- An approver reviews your request.
- If approved, you get temporary access (usually for 1 day, depending on the request type) to view or work with the restricted data.
- If rejected, you're notified and the restriction remains.
- Once the access window expires, the restriction re-applies.
Access level:
Your access is temporary and narrowly scoped to what you requested. You won't have permanent elevated permissions.
Audit trail:
All access requests are logged. Your organization can see who requested what and when.
